Do you want to become a counselor?
Wondering how long it takes to become a counselor?
What Are Your Christian Counselling Goals and Education?
Ultimately, the time frame it takes to become a Christian counselor depends on what kind of an educational background you have, the amount of time you can dedicate to the program, and what kind of a counselor you are seeking to become.
For example, if you are hoping to offer lay counseling at your church or as a part of your ministry, you could complete some Christian counseling courses online without having to complete an entire degree. Our certificate programs are comprised of 12 credit hours, or 4 classes, and would be a great program for anyone who wishes to counsel others in a non-professional setting. These classes could be completed in a number of months.
Do You Want to Become a Professional Counselor?
For someone who is pursuing a role or a career as a professional counselor, the time frame will be longer and also more varied. Generally, someone working toward becoming a professional counselor would already have a bachelor’s degree and would enroll in one of our masters programs. The entire program will take two to three years to complete.
For pastors seeking to better equip themselves for church leadership and counseling, they could benefit from the certificate program, or they may wish to complete a Christian counseling degree online, which would, again, take about two to three years to complete. Finishing one of Trinity’s programs can help give pastors the knowledge they need to better shepherd and guide church members.
